Harris will travel to the city with Environmental Protection Agency administrator Michael Regan, the White House announced Tuesday.

Harris and Regan will highlight “the success the city has had replacing lead service lines.”

The two will also talk about funding in Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure law that will go towards removing and replacing lead service lines across the U.S.

The infrastructure package, which Biden signed into law in November, goes beyond roads and bridges to include such initiatives as broadband internet, replacement of lead water pipes and resilience against climate change.

Newark officials recently said the “Herculean” effort to replace about 23,000 lead service lines using city funds is nearly complete after less than three years, according to NJ.com.

Kareem Adeem, the director of Newark’s water and sewer department, said this week that the city has “shown the way to get this done because we had the will to do it.”
