PARAMUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Tens of thousands of customers across the tri-state were without power on Friday after a Christmas storm brought heavy rain and powerful wind gusts, toppling tress and power lines.
More than 100,000 customers were without power Friday, including about 15,000 in New York City, 40,000 in New Jersey, 40,000 in the northern suburbs and 20,000 in Connecticut.
In Paramus, a 40-foot tree landed on the room of Carlos Jaramillo's daughter overnight.
"It's really bad, really traumatizing for us. The family's safe though, thank God. They're at a local hotel, but I'm just trying to recover from this right now," said, Jaramillo, who is a health care worker.
Thursday night's storm brought heavy rain and gusts of up to 60 mph to the city and surrounding areas.
The rain began to taper off Friday, when it was expected to be blustery and colder with clouds breaking for some sunshine in the afternoon.
The high will be about 58 Friday before temperatures fall into the 40s in the afternoon. Lows will drop into the 20s at night.
It will be partly sunny and brisk on Saturday and Sunday, when highs are expected to be in the lows 30s and low 40s, respectively.
