Dangerous cold envelopes NYC, with wind chills in the teens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Arctic cold air enveloped the New York City area on Monday, sending wind chills into the teens on the coldest day of the season so far.

According to AccuWeather, Monday's high will only be 31 degrees in Central Park. Wind gusts up to 30 mph will keep RealFeels mainly in the teens. Lows will plunge to around 21 degrees overnight in the city.

“Monday will be the coldest day since February, and the cold will be severe enough to damage exposed skin in minutes,” NYC Emergency Management warned on X.

A Code Blue was issued in New York City amid the dangerous bout of cold, meaning shelter is available for anyone. Those in need can call 311.

The cold will stick around through Tuesday—when the high will be 36 and RealFeels will be in the 20s—before temps warm slightly to the low 40s on Wednesday.
