NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Wind chills are expected to take a nosedive this weekend as Arctic air overtakes the Tri-State area yet again amid 40-50 mph wind gusts.

According to AccuWeather, RealFeels could drop to -20 degrees or lower Saturday night and early Sunday.

An Extreme Cold Warning will be in effect for the area from Saturday to Sunday. A Wind Advisory has also been issued.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes," the National Weather Service warned.

The bitter cold is thanks to an Arctic front that’s arriving Saturday from the Great Lakes.

Ahead of the cold, there will be snow late Friday and early Saturday. Lows will dip to around 20 degrees in the city.

About an inch of snow is expected for most of the area, though Suffolk County could get 1 to 3 inches.

Conditions then turn sharply colder and very windy on Saturday. Gusts could top 50 mph as highs barely reach 20 during the day. Lows will drop to near-zero Saturday night—when wind chills may bottom out to -10, -20 or even lower.

The dangerous cold will continue on Sunday. The high will be just 16 with a low of 6 and RealFeels below zero.

At least 17 people have died outdoors in NYC since Jan. 24 as brutal cold has gripped the city. Mounds of snow have remained frozen on streets and sidewalks, leading to issues with parking and trash pickup.

Highs are then expected to rise steadily next week to 24 on Monday, 30 on Tuesday and 36 on Wednesday.
