Easter Sunday has already been disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak with many churches across the country switching to online and virtual services.

However, some grocery and home improvement stores are also taking a break - for Sunday only to give their essential workers a rest day.

Trader Joe's, Target, Lowe's, Sprouts, Sam's Club, Costco and others will be closed Easter Sunday to give their workers a break.

For example, Lowe's said it would give its 300,000 workers a break Sunday, according to a press release from the company.

"Our ability to support communities with essential goods and services during this pandemic is thanks to our outstanding, dedicated associates,” said Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO, in a press release. “We want to provide our teams with a much-deserved day off to spend Easter Sunday with their families and loved ones and recharge.

Walmart will remain open, however.
