VERNON, Conn. (1010 WINS) – A woman in her 50s was fighting for her life Thursday after she fell through the ice at a lake in Connecticut on Christmas Day.
Someone called police after seeing the woman in the water of Bolton Lake in Vernon around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene at 55 Lynwood Dr. and found the woman unresponsive in the icy water, Vernon police said.
They performed live-saving measures at the scene and rushed her by medevac helicopter to Hartford Hospital, where she was in critical condition.
Police urged people to follow the state's ice safety guidelines and warned "ice is never 100% safe."
