NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 28-year-old volunteer in a clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine produced by drugmaker AstraZeneca and developed by Oxford University has died, the Brazilian health authority Anvisa said Wednesday.
The Brazilian newspaper O Globo, citing unnamed sources, reported that the volunteer received a placebo, not the vaccine, and died of COVID-19.
The Brazilian news service G1 reported that the individual is a 28-year-old doctor who treated coronavirus patients in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency, which is overseeing vaccine trials in the country, said AstraZeneca’s international safety committee had recommended the trial continue.
