RYE BROOK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A man who was driving the wrong way on the Hutchinson River Parkway early Sunday morning crashed into another car, killing the motorist, Westchester County Police said.
Authorities received several 911 calls at around 5:08 a.m. that a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on the parkway in Rye Brook, and it collided with another car about half a mile south of King Street.
The car that was struck was completely engulfed in flames when officers arrived, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has not yet been identified.
The wrong-way driver was removed from his car and rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment. His identity has not been released, and it is not yet clear if charges will be brought against him.
Police are investigating the full circumstances of the collision.
