Three-time MLB All-Star Daniel Murphy is hanging up his spikes.

"This is a beautiful game, and I really just feel humbled and blessed that it let me jump on the ride for a little bit," Murphy told SNY's Andy Martino. "It’s beautiful. It can teach you about so many things. And all I can say is, thank you."

Murphy, now 35, had spent the past two seasons with the Colorado Rockies, but will be most remembered for his time with two National League East clubs, the New York Mets and Washington Nationals.

Murphy was selected by the New York Mets in the 13th round of the 2006 MLB Draft, and spent the first seven seasons of his career in Queens. Something of a late bloomer, Murphy made his first All-Star team with the Mets in 2014, his age-29 season. In 2015, he turned in a historic postseason run, slashing .328/.391/.724 with seven home runs and 11 RBIs, winning the NLCS MVP and helping the Mets to reach the World Series.

Said postseason run was parlayed into a three-year/$37.5 million deal to join Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and the Washington Nationals ahead of the 2016 season. Murphy would make All-Star teams with the Nationals in 2016 and 2017. He finished as the runner up to Kris Bryant in National League MVP voting in 2016.

For most of his career, Murphy was a below-average defender, but at his peak, his bat made him worth having in the lineup every night. Between 2014 and 2017, Murphy was one of the best pure hitters in the sport, slashing .309/.357/.495.
