The Yankees have lost five straight games, and trail the Blue Jays by 6.5 games for the final playoff spot.
Now all but finished, the Yankees are clinging to hope that their anemic offense will awaken, their battered rotation will find stability, and the team will somehow keep its postseason streak alive.
“We're just a couple streaks away from being right where we want to be,” Aaron Judge said. “I think going home, get a little reset and get back out there, I think the boys are gonna be ready. Just like skip said all year, it's right in front of us.
“We gotta go out there and take it.”
As Judge referenced, Aaron Boone’s rally cry for the season has been, “it’s right in front of us.” But thanks to the team’s latest skid, it no longer is. The Yanks trail Toronto by 6.5 games, and play them six more times this season. If the Bombers are to ensure they make the playoffs for the seventh year in a row, they will need some help.
First, they have to show any signs of life themselves, which will have to start in the upcoming homestand, starting with the rival Red Sox on Friday night.
“We got work to do,” Judge said. “We got an off day coming up. Time to reset and get back to it.”
