Angela Lee is back in the gym and preparing to make her return to the cage after having her daughter Ava back in April, and will be ready to defend her title later this year.
Lee will await the winner of the upcoming atomweight grand prix and fight to retain her belt after claiming the ONE championship atomweight title in October of 2019.
“I’m super motivated and excited to get back in there,” Lee told Pete Hoffman on the latest episode of The Fight Fan. “Ideally, I’d like to be prepared to fight by the end of the year. That’s my goal, and that’s what I had in mind when I got pregnant. But let’s see how it goes. I’m feeling good…I know it’s gonna be rough in the beginning, but just gotta be consistent, and in no time I’ll be in that fighting shape.”
Between her pregnancy and the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee will be away from fighting for more than two years by the time she makes her return, but her focus has been on her newborn daughter, though she’ll be ready to shift that focus to fighting when the time comes.
“It’s a real special feeling,” Lee said. “Ever since I can remember I wanted to be a mom, even before I wanted to be a world champion. Now I have both, and I just feel so blessed.”
WFAN’s own Rickie Ricardo also joined the latest episode, detailing his background in wrestling that stretches back to childhood.
Ricardo was also a part of the first WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden in 1985, helping with promotions and kicking off the annual event that will have its 38th instalment next year.
“I go all the way back to Superstar Billy Graham and Bruno Sammartino, guys like that,” Ricardo said. “We moved to Florida when I was young…back then, before Vince McMahon bought the entire country, it was divided into territories. So the northeast, when I would come up for summer vacations…I’d be watching the WWF, and back in Florida was the NWA.”
