Anthony Volpe couldn't have dreamed a better Yankees return

Anthony Volpe could not have scripted a better Yankees return.

The former hyped prospect admittedly did not know if he would ever get another shot with his homegrown team, but hours after being called up from Triple-A on Thursday, Volpe had one of the best games of his career, swatting a game-breaking grand slam while driving in a career-high five runs in a 10-3 victory for the Bombers.

The grand slam, an opposite-field laser in the bottom of the seventh, was Volpe's third of his career and first since his signature Yankee moment, a grand slam in game four of the 2024 World Series.

Just weeks after being persona non grata in the Bronx for what had become another underwhelming season, Volpe is now fresh off a statement game in which he took a curtain call amid a sea of cheers for his monster night that helped the Yankees complete a sweep of Colorado and gain a crucial game on the Rays in the race for the AL East crown.

Volpe worked a long at-bat in his first plate appearance of the night before lining a single into the shortstop hole to drive in a run. He also stole a base, singled again, and continued swinging the scalding hot bat that earned him MiLB Player of the Week honors earlier this month.

With Jazz Chisholm shut down from baseball activities for the next 7-10 days, Volpe could get plenty more opportunities at second base. If he continues to show this revamped version of himself, it will be hard to take that playing time away from him, even with October fast approaching.
