West Point to host 2020 Army-Navy football game

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The annual Army-Navy game will not be played in Philadelphia this year as originally scheduled.

The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau said due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s game has been moved from Lincoln Financial Field to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

In Pennsylvania, attendance is capped at 7,500 people at outdoor venues like the Linc.

Officials say the move will allow their storied rivalry to continue while minimizing travel and exposure to the virus for players, coaches and students.

This year marks the first time the game has been played at a home site since World War II. Annapolis hosted the 1942 game and West Point the 1943 game, according to game officials. The two schools also rotated hosting the first four games from 1890 to 1893.

The Army-Navy game is slated to return to Philadelphia in 2022.
