Boomer ripped the idea that Brock Purdy is a “game manager” and a system quarterback, and Gio agrees that, even after a loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl XLVIII, Purdy showed his worth.
“The Brock Purdy questions have been answered. I think he played well last night,” Gio said. “There’s no reason, in my opinion, that the 49ers should make a change at quarterback.”
Still, Gio wondered if the Niners would overreact to another Super Bowl heartbreak and look to make a change, as they were prepared to do a year ago when they reached out to Tom Brady. Boomer isn’t buying it, and believes there is a path to a title with Purdy as the starting quarterback.
“He is cheap. This is exactly what you want,” Boomer said. “They’ll probably give him a significant raise and try to extend him now…now would be the time to go in and give him some kind of contract extension.
“That kid showed that he has the moxie to play at this level in the biggest game of his life. I thought he started out the game great.”
