Boomer expects Matthew Stafford solution soon as Giants reportedly make him top priority

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants are making Matthew Stafford their top priority this offseason, as Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen continue to search for their solution at quarterback.

Reacting Thursday morning, Boomer Esiason believes this signals that a solution is going to come sooner than later when it comes to where Stafford will play football in 2025.

“If the Rams are putting Matthew Stafford out there, let’s go,” Boomer said. “If you want to keep him, pay him what we wants. If you don’t want to do that, then you have to have at least a reasonable ask for the team that you’d be trading him to.

“The Giants aren’t looking for a stopgap right now…they’re looking for a player that is gonna make them a playoff-level team.”

Big Blue seems to believe that Stafford would get them there after two disastrous seasons in which four different quarterbacks were under center. New York is seeking some stability, and reportedly would be willing to pay top dollar to bring in the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer. The alternative would be to use the team’s No. 3 pick to draft a Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, but Boomer believes Stafford would be much more of a sure thing, even if it is going to take a lot to get him.

“Neither one of the top two quarterbacks are truly worth being picked at the top of the draft,” Boomer said. “We’ve seen teams reach for people, but none of these quarterbacks would have been in the top three last year.”
