As PGA commissioner Jay Monahan hears heavy criticism from all corners of the golf world after Tuesday’s merger with LIV Golf, Boomer says the commissioner would be best off resigning from his position.

“I do believe he just saved the PGA Tour, and the PGA Tour will remain as it is, and money will be increased for the players, but I think he should resign,” Boomer said.

“Given the comments he gave in regards to the 9/11 families, he should resign. They should give him a package, let him move on. He saved it, he’s taken the slings and arrows for it, he saved his own job. Take a payout and just go away.”

Monahan was quickly called out after announcement of the merger, as video clips resurfaced of him voicing his support for the families of 9/11 groups that spoke out against players joining LIV, and Boomer says that hypocrisy warrants a resignation.

“I am on the side of the 9/11 family groups that look at this as a stab in the back,” Boomer said. “They were the ones supporting the PGA Tour.”
