Boomer ready for Rangers to take on familiar Capitals, 'pain in the ass' Tom Wilson

The Rangers have learned their first-round opponent for the NHL Playoffs, and it will be a familiar foe in Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.

The Blueshirts have seen Washington several times in the postseason in recent years, and Boomer feels like it has been the Caps or Penguins in the first round nearly every year since the NHL changed its postseason format.

“I’m sick of them,” Boomer said. “It feels like we play the same teams.”

That means familiar faces, and the Rangers will see one in Tom Wilson, who sparked the Blueshirts to change their identity years back after Wilson ignited a brawl at the end of a lost season for New York.

“They’re an older team, they’re still a skilled team, and our old friend Tom Wilson will be in the house,” Boomer said. “Last time we were really talking about him was when he ragdolled Artemi Panarin…he’s just gonna be a pain in the ass. We all know he’s gonna be a pain in the ass, but that’s what these playoffs are about.”
