Davante Adams’ agent emphatically shot down any rumors of the star wide receiver being traded, as speculation continues that Adams could want to reunite with Aaron Rodgers in New York.
Despite the denial, Boomer believes that a trade to the Jets is still very much in the cards for Adams, who was a star with the Packers alongside Rodgers.
“Davante Adams is scheduled to makes $36 million next year,” Boomer said. “The way that the contract was written that the Raiders would either have to redo the contract or cut him next year. So why would the Raiders - who are not going anywhere this year, are not anywhere remotely close to being a Super Bowl team - why would they want to hold on to a Hall of Fame wide receiver, who I think what’s out of there?”
Boomer believes the statement from Adams’ camp is not a sign of what is to come the rest of the offseason, and was rather a PR move to hide the likely reality that Adams wants to be surrounded by more of a contender that gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl.
“This is all politics and image-conscious stuff,” Boomer said. “I think he enjoys playing for the Raiders and living in Vegas. But Randy Moss said it. You gotta chase the ring. After you get your money, it becomes, ‘How can I cement my legacy?’
“If you had to list the quarterback rooms in the NFL right now, they’re in the bottom third, and this is a Hall of Famer who has made a lot of money. It just stands to reason that this is gonna happen.”
