Boomer would be in favor of Jets hiring Mike Borgonzi, Matt Nagy package deal

As the Jets continue interviews for their next head coach and general manager, Boomer Esiason returned to two names that he believe would make a great fit in New York as a package deal.

“What’s really important is that they get the general manager right,” Boomer said. “It just has to be a guy who has a track record of some success in the NFL somewhere else.

“If you are going to go down the path of ‘let’s steal people who are successful in other places,’ then it would be Mike Borgonzi, and of course Matt Nagy would make a lot of sense. They know each other, they’re coming from Kansas City, which has been the most successful team of the last five years...those guys have been around.”

Borgonzi and Nagy have been around plenty of winning thanks to their time with the Chiefs, and Boomer believes their familiarity with a winning organization would do wonders for a franchise like the Jets, who have been trying to change their culture and identity for years. There are other intriguing candidates, but Boomer wants to see two hires that know each other, and what better collective hire than one coming from an organization that is going for a third straight Super Bowl title.

“I don’t think there has been any drop-off from when Eric Bieniemy left to when Matt Nagy came back,” Boomer said of the Chiefs offense.

“They are successful coaches and front office people that are with a successful franchise...if you told me it was gonna be Borgonzi and Nagy, I wouldn’t be disappointed with that.”
