Cody Bellinger is back with the Cubs on a three-year deal with opt outs after the first two years of his deal, as the lefty slugger wound up signing for much less than many anticipated.
Given the price drop, BT is not happy that the Yankees did not pounce on the former MVP.
“Once the Yankees got Verdugo and Soto, I crossed Bellinger’s name off the list,” BT said. “Then I see the contract. Three years, basically $80 million with an opt-out after one and two [years].
“I don’t want to be greedy here…the fact that they weren’t in on this, it bothers me.”
The outfield seems full with Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo, and Juan Soto in the fold, with Trent Grisham as a defensive replacement and Jasson Dominguez working his way back from Tommy John surgery. But BT says a player like Bellinger is one you make room for.
“He is a player I have liked for a long time…he’s worth it,” BT said. “Can you imagine, in succession, Soto, Judge, Bellinger? Lefty, righty, lefty.”
