Brandon Tierney is growing more and more frustrated with the Yankees front office with each player that comes off the board.
Tuesday morning brought news that Freddie Freeman, one of the last remaining stars on the market, was drawing interest from the Red Sox, according to Audacy MLB insider Jon Heyman, meaning every AL East team aside from the lowly Orioles have an interest in the former MVP and World Series champion.
That was the last straw for BT.
“You’ve got the Dodgers, who spend, and by the way, they’ve won a championship recently, and the Jays, they’re coming, right now, given their rotation, Toronto is better than the Yankees,” BT said during Tuesday’s show. “Then you look at the Rays, who have been better than the Yankees, and then you look at the Red Sox, who got a champion shop much more recently than the Yankees.”
If Freeman signs anywhere other than the Dodgers or Yankees, or winds up on any division rival, BT says it’s time for Brian Cashman’s 24-year tenure as general manager to come to an end.
“If the Yankees…allow Freddie Freeman to go within the division, then we officially start the clock,” BT said. “And if the Yankees bomb this year…if they allow that to happen, and the Yankees have a season, 85 wins, 88 wins and make the playoffs and get bumped early like always, then it is official they need a new general manger.”
The Yankees, aside from a pair of big splashes in trading for Giancarlo Stanton and signing Gerrit Cole, haven’t acted like the Evil Empire label it embraced under George Steinbrenner, and haven’t made big splashes to complement their young core. BT has seen enough, and is nearly at his end with Cashman.
“I hear Brian Cashman…you sound like you’re destitute….did the Wilpons suddenly take over the Yankees?” BT said. “Every single rumbling, every rumor, nothing is favorably attached to the Yankees. And that better change, because if the Yankees aren’t careful, they’re gonna get their asses handed to them this year.”
