The Yankees introduced Aaron Judge on Wednesday, and Hal Steinbrenner said there could be more introductions to come this offseason.
“All I can tell you is that we’re not done yet,” Steinbrenner told reporters on Wednesday.
But with the free agency shelves nearly emptied, where could the Yanks go to make more additions? Steinbrenner mentioned adding to the bullpen and the lineup, and when it comes to the latter, left field seems like the most logical option. Have any trades been explored to fill that need?
“We’ve definitely been having a lot of conversations,” Brian Cashman said. “The free agent market is not as full of opportunities as potential trade markets, and the trade markets have been quite difficult, to be quite honest.”
Bryan Reynolds is the most obvious trade candidate, though the Pirates are reportedly asking for a boatload in return for the outfielder. If the Yanks can’t find an acceptable asking price for Reynolds or another outfielder, they will be satisfied with entering the 2023 season with what they have.
“We’re prepared to go with what we have internally,” Cashman said. “Aaron Hicks has rehabbed his knee…and he’s doing really well. He’ll be ready to go in spring training. And obviously Oswaldo Cabrera was fantastic in his little edition of outfield work. Those are the primary defaults with [Estevan] Florial, but ultimately, we’ll stay engaged and see where it takes us. We know it’s an area we’d love to upgrade if we can, but that doesn’t mean that we will.”
