The Brooklyn Nets selected a pair of freshmen with back-to-back picks at Nos. 21 and 22 in the 2023 NBA Draft – and in Round 2 they went with a fourth-year player, selecting Kansas redshirt junior forward Jalen Wilson with the No. 51 pick in the second round.
Wilson was the unanimous 2022-23 Big 12 Player of the Year and a consensus First Team All-American, and won the Julius Erving Award as the national small forward of the year. He averaged 20.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 36 contests for the Jayhawks, starting all 36, and he had averaged 11.1 points and 7.4 boards per game in helping KU win the national title in 2022.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pounder was just the 10th player in Kansas history to score at least 1,400 points and record 800 rebounds in his career, finishing with averages of 14.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in 104 contests.
