BT doesn't blame Aaron Hicks at all for wanting nothing to do with Yankees roll call

BT has been the first to criticize Aaron Hicks for his awful play, and can’t believe the struggling outfielder hasn’t been let go yet.

But he also isn’t about to blame Hicks for looking clearly disinterested in participating in the roll call tradition at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

Video from the right field bleachers showed Hicks waiting nearly 25 seconds before quickly lifting his glove hand in acknowledgement as the ‘Aaron Hicks’ chants continued. But given how the fans have treated Hicks during his slumps and injuries, BT completely understands the reaction, or lack thereof.

“’Forget about acknowledging the Bleacher Creatures, I want to give them the finger,’” BT said, imagining what is likely going through Hicks’ head. “I want to say ‘Up yours,’ because of the way they treat him.”

For what it’s worth, Hicks’ lack of desire to answer the roll call could have likely been due to the scattering of fans that chanted “sucks” in between chants of his name during the nightly routine. BT knows Hicks has earned the boos, but he’s not about to say that he should just put a smile on and cheerfully acknowledge the fans that have been killing him for years.

“He’s earned it. I’m not getting on the creatures or Yankee fans,” BT said. “He’s earned every ounce. But don’t you think he wants to? You don’t think he goes home and night and says to his wife, ‘I can’t stand these people. I hate this situation.’”
