DJ LeMahieu labored through another hitless night on Wednesday, and his batting average for the season has now dipped below .220.
With LeMahieu set to turn 35 next week, many wonder if the former batting champ will ever get back to the player he was for the Yankees before he signed his six-year contract extension. BT is convinced that LeMahieu will never be anywhere close to that again, and should no longer be an everyday player for the Bombers.
“DJ LeMahieu looks absolutely toasted, man,” BT said. “He looks slow, he looks broken, he looks out of shape. He looks like we did at the Carton Roberts and Tiki Tierney softball game.
“Just watching him run is painful. He looks old. He looks like a softball player.”
Unfortunately, Josh Donaldson appears to be at the end of his rope as well, leaving the Yankees with little options to take at-bats from LeMahieu, who is still valued for his infield versatility. Oswald Peraza is an internal option, but the Yanks don’t seem motivated to call him up anytime soon. So, LeMahieu will likely continue to get consistent at-bats, which isn’t inspiring to BT.
“DJ LeMahieu playing every day is not remotely appealing to me at all,” BT said. “He looks done…it’s been nearly three years.”
