As the Rangers enter a pivotal offseason, BT says the team needs to acknowledge the fact that they are in danger of wasting the prime of another superstar goalie in Igor Shesterkin.
“This should terrify real Ranger fans,” BT said. “You’re a couple of years now in to wasting another goalie’s prime. You did it with [Henrik] Lundqvist. You never got through.
“You’re approaching 40 percent into Igor’s prime, and you’re doing it again. Now you got some cap issues.”
The Rangers couldn’t get over the hump with Hall of Famer Henrik Lundqvist in his prime, and BT is worried that history could be repeating itself if the Rangers don’t build a better team around their current netminder.
“I don’t want to overstate this. I don’t want to be a prisoner of the moment,” BT said. “This might be the most pivotal summer the Rangers have had in 20 years.”
