Sal has consistently voiced concerns about the Mets core, going as far as calling them "soft" in recent years.
BT agrees, but doesn't just distrust the core because of their makeup. He also doesn't believe the group of Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Jeff McNeil is nearly talented enough to be the foundation of a championship team.
"It's not. It's not even close," BT said. "Even if the Mets had a lights-out pitching staff, I still don't think it would be necessarily good enough to win a World Series.
"I look at cores in fours. The young Orioles, the Braves, the Astros, the Dodgers, the Phillies…it just dwarfs what the Mets have in talent."
With that in mind, BT maintains that trading Pete Alonso to shake up the core and continue to replenish the farm system and look ahead to the future is the best path forward.
"I'm OK with blowing this thing up," BT said. "I've been saying it forever."
