Sal Licata doesn't want the Mets to sell at the trade deadline, despite their bleak playoff outlook, but BT says the For Sale sign should be up in front of Citi Field.
"Not only would I sell," BT said. "Forget about the ancillary pieces like Robertson. This is gonna sound crazy. Nimmo, Lindor, I would take calls on everybody. I think the Mets core is busted. It's broken. I don't think the Mets core has a bridge to anything that Mets fans are dying for, which is championships.
"I look at this team, and I just can't envision winning nine of 11 or 12 of 15 as they play some better teams."
BT hasn't believed in this Mets team as a true title contender since last year, when they collapsed down the stretch to lose the NL East before flopping in the Wild Card Series against the Padres. Sal says the team needs a lot of improvements as well, but doesn't think that will happen by selling everyone.
"The New York Mets cannot, and should not sell," Sal said. "Number one, I do not trust Billy Eppler for a wholesale fire sale, maximizing the return. Number two, I don't think the return is going to be worth it. when you talk about the popular names, David Robertson and Tommy Pham, what do these guys get nowadays? This isn't 2016 when Brian Cashman gave up Aroldis Chapman for top prospect Gleyber Torres. Number three, they're indecisive…when you're indecisive, don't do it."
