The Super Bowl is just days away, but BT and Sal can’t seem to get themselves fired up for the Big Game on Sunday.
Despite the storylines being there with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs going for the first three-peat in NFL history, or Saquon Barkley looking for his first championship in his debut season with the Eagles, BT and Sal don’t believe there is the same level of hype for this game, and BT believes it is the continuation of a trend when it comes to interest in the sport.
“There’s no juice here...this is very odd, but I also think this is reflective of the direction of the NFL,” BT said. “There’s just no buzz. I would understand it a little more if it was like Carolina and Jacksonville. But you have Mahomes, you have two great fanbases...and I think there’s a lot of problems with the NFL.”
The two weeks in between games has become a drag for both BT and Sal, but BT believes there is a greater problem that could eventually start to impact ratings for the league, even though ratings show, at least for now, that the NFL is still king.
“I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer...and I am excited for the game,” BT said. “But I think, when you look at the NFL now, I think to a lot of people - and I don’t agree with this - but it feels rigged to some people. The quality of play has dropped off a cliff. There have been a lot of issues mounting for a while, and they seem to be hitting a head.
“The NFL feels as insignificant to me as it has in my lifetime.”
