BT says Mets run to the playoffs began with win over Yankees

BT has done quite the shift in his outlook for the 2023 Mets.

In what has quietly been a stronger July for New York, the Mets added to that with a beatdown of the Yankees on Tuesday night, which included two home runs from the previously slumping Pete Alonso, another strong outing from Justin Verlander, and signs of life from the previously struggling Jeff McNeil.

With those narratives unfolding, and the soft schedule that awaits, BT says the Mets have officially begun their improbable playoff run.

"Last night was the starting point for the Mets," BT said. "The Mets are gonna be a playoff team.

"Once they smack around [Carlos] Rodon tonight, and he gets booed mercilessly off the mound…that will be another win. Then they got four against the Nats at Citi, who stink, and you got three in Kansas City, and they stink as well."

It may seem like a drastic shift, but this realization isn't just from one Subway Series win. There have quietly been signs of improvement in Queens, and with teams ahead of the Mets that aren't exactly world beaters, why can't they make a run over the final two months of the season?

"It's not just a reaction to one game," BT said. "Verlander has been pitching well lately…Alonso is starting to wake up, and McNeil is starting to wake up.

"Last night was one of the few times the Mets looked like they can be the team many of us thought they could be this year…the Mets started their playoff run last night."
