BT wants Jets Aaron Glenn to ease up on 'win now' declarations

Since taking the job and speaking with reporters for the first time, Aaron Glenn has not been shy about his expectation for the Jets to have a quick turnaround and win starting next season.

The new head coach didn’t back down from that mindset when speaking with the media again at the combine earlier this week.

“We’re here to win now,” Glenn declared in just his second time behind a microphone as the Jets head coach.

BT would like to see Glenn ease up a bit on that expectation, at least publicly, and not give any more ammo to those waiting for another Gang Green experiment to go wrong.

“Stop telling us you’re gonna win now. Stop doing it!” BT said. “For once, I’d like to see the Jets take the side door in.

“I don’t want to see this come back and blow up in his face.”

BT still believes the Jets made the right hire with Glenn, but he would like to see the first-time head coach express some patience, and some confirmation that he and Darren Mougey will take a close look at what is best for the long-term health of the franchise, and what will lead to sustained success for years to come.

“Maybe it is a one-year turnaround. But don’t stack the deck any more than you need to,” BT said. “I don’t know if they’re necessarily ready to win. I just think you can project that accountability without being so bottom line.

“‘There’s no shortcuts. This is not gonna happen overnight. This is not a microwave situation.’ Illuminate how bad it’s been, and then cross the bridge to what you think you’re going to do. That’s the prudent route. That’s what I would do.”
