BT: Win streak is nice, but it's still the same old Mets

The Mets are officially streaking, winners of four in a row after a dramatic victory over the Diamondbacks late Wednesday night, highlighted by a game-tying home run from Francisco Alvarez with New York down to its final strike.

Still, BT isn't hopping on that bandwagon.

"I'm impressed by the Mets the last couple days for sure…relevant baseball is always a great bridge to football season," BT said. "What the Mets have shown us the last few days, I wasn't even sure they had anymore, and that's heart. They looked resigned to losing.

"Bottom line is this: they're still sub-.500 against losing teams, I still don't trust the starters to go deep into games, and I still don't believe in the bullpen."

The Mets have a ways to go to erase the brutal start to their season, but as a team that came into the year with World Series aspirations, has the last four games been a return to the level of play many suspected from them all along? Or is it a high mark in a 162-game season that is bound to have some runs of success. BT is siding on the latter until proven otherwise.

"This notion of 'Here come the Mets,' they're not even .500," BT said. "They're not even really that close…I'm not saying don't enjoy the win…I'm not trying to be that guy, and I'm sorry, but when we're past July 4 and that's the first time I get the sense that they actually do care about being great and jumping back into this thing, I'm not taking that hook yet."
