The Yankees don’t seem to be in any rush to address the questions on their roster with Opening Day a month away, and Brandon Tierney has no problem with that.
In fact, BT is ready to strap in and prepare for a potentially bumpy ride through summer as the Bombers pinpoint which areas need to be prioritized to improve, and address those at the deadline.
“The Yankee fan needs to get comfortable being uncomfortable for a while,” BT said. “Right now, the Yankees are a flawed team, and they know it. But now is not the time to address it.
“I’m not doing anything right now if I’m the Yankees. You know why? I don’t know what the biggest problem is gonna be. It’s like the old whack-a-mole on the boardwalk.”
Whether it’s third base or the DH spot in the wake of Giancarlo Stanton’s injury, the Yanks have some clear areas of concern regarding the offense, but BT says he isn’t sweating it. He sees the Yanks winning 90-plus games “with their eyes closed” in this American League, regardless of the questions that still linger.
So, why rush to plug holes instead of taking some time to see what truly needs addressing?
“I do think the Yankees will be very good this year,” BT said. “But if you look at this team and the situations that are building by the day…there’s a lot of things you can’t trust right now.
“Why in the world would you fire it now, when you don’t know what the biggest issue is gonna be?”
