BT is expecting big changes for the Yankees this season, and he says they need to start by making one particular trade.
“Gleyber Torres must go. It’s that simple,” BT said. “If you watch the Yankees, you’ll know that his impact on winning is minimal.
“Gleyber Torres, if this player was spit off of the assembly line of the conveyor belt of baseball players, you would go, ‘I love this guy.’ He posts every day, played 158 games, plays a premium position in terms of very few players have a dearth of power at second. He hit 28 bombs, finished with an OPS right on the button at .800.”
Torres put together a fine offense season, hitting 28 home runs to lead all American League second basemen, while batting .273 with an .800 OPS. Still, BT can’t get past the miscues on the bases and in the field, and with Torres entering his final season before free agency, the time is now to move him and get something of value back.
“You actually watch him play, and you realize his head is too often in space, he’s a mess on the bases, airmails balls to first base because he’s not locked in,” BT said. “He must go, and you must start there.”
