BT's instant reaction to Knicks naming Jalen Brunson team captain

The Knicks announced Tuesday morning that Jalen Brunson has been named the 36th captain in franchise history, further cementing the star point guard as one of the most revered athletes in New York right now.

Brunson, after taking an unprecedented discount by signing an extension with the Knicks this season, will become the first Knicks captain since Lance Thomas in the 2018-19 campaign.

Reacting live to the breaking news, Brandon Tierney applauded the no-brainer move to make Brunson the team's unquestioned leader.

"Let's go! That's right, that is my captain," BT said. "That is a very unexpected, awesome surprise."

Brunson is the fourth second-round pick in team history to be named captain, and his arrival two years ago coincided with the Knicks rising to prominence, now considered a contender heading into the 2024-25 campaign, as Brunson has become the star the team had coveted for over a decade.

"The New York Knicks have a deep and storied history and today we are immensely proud to add to that lineage by naming Jalen Brunson as our captain," Knicks president Leon Rose said in a press release. "Jalen is a natural born leader, and I am confident he will continue to represent our organization, fans, city and his teammates with the same heart, grit and class that he has displayed each and every day since he came to New York."

BT couldn't agree more.

"All he does is exude captain-like qualities. Selfless, hard worker," BT said. "Was there ever more of a captain-like move by leaving $115 million on the table? I know he's gonna reap the rewards down the stream, but that is a risk. That's awesome."
