The Mets have lost a top Opening Day third base candidate for possibly the season, as Ronny Mauricio tore his ACL in winter league play on Sunday.
Now with a need at the hot corner, as well as DH, C-Mac says a reunion with free agent Justin Turner would be the perfect move for the Mets.
“A reunion with Turner would be ideal, really. Right handed bat, DH, play third base occasionally, a leader,” C-Mac said. “He was a leader with the Red Sox…he’s a veteran leader, won with the Dodgers, won a World Series, and he was a good bat for the Red Sox.
“If they could bring back Turner…he’s someone who would fit this team like a glove. I could see that.”
Turner, 39, hit .276 with 23 home runs in 558 at-bats with Boston last season. The Mets traded him away to the Dodgers after the 2014 season, shortly before he revamped his swing and became an All-Star and World Series champion. Turner will likely sign a short-term deal given his age, and C-Mac says that would be perfect for the Mets.
“Now that they’ve lost Mauricio, a legitimate candidate for this team, they have to do something,” C-Mac said. “You’d think Turner wouldn’t be an expensive move.”
