Hal Steinbrenner caught some flack on Tuesday after he told reporters that Nick Swisher was among the former players that he consulted when gauging whether the Yankees needed to make a managerial change.

C-Mac can’t believe that became a source of criticism.

“I think it’s predicated on so many people just hating Aaron Boone,” C-Mac said. “Yeah, he asked Nick Swisher, a former major leaguer who works in the Yankee minor league system…he’s worked with all these minor league guys, he’s in the organization now…he was brought here in 2009 to help change the clubhouse.

“The owner did not say ‘I had a sitdown with Nick Swisher, and we went over it and we decided Aaron Boone should stay.’ He just mentioned a couple names of different people who have been around baseball a long time, have been around this team, and seen Aaron Boone interact with his players.”

Swisher has been an advisor with the team for years, and his infectious energy attracted Cashman to signing him as a player before the 2009 season, and that energy lightened up even the most fiercest competitors on those Yankee teams, including Derek Jeter. C-Mac doesn’t see how Swisher’s credentials to give his input can be questioned.

“What’s the matter with Nick Swisher?” C-Mac said. “Who are you to question Nick Swisher?”
