Giants star Dexter Lawrence made it clear to Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic that he wasn’t a big fan of Daniel Jones being demoted to third-string quarterback, telling Carroll that he believed Jones was still the best option despite the team’s 2-8 record.
“To me, the best quarterback on the team,” Lawrence said. “But they see things differently. I guess that’s all that matters.”
Multiple other Giants players reportedly questioned the move, but Chris McMonigle says anyone wondering why the move was made hasn’t been paying enough attention to how the Giants have looked with Jones under center.
“Dexter Lawrence, I love you. I do,” C-Mac said. “You’re one of the better defensive players in the sport...i don’t understand how you can possibly be upset with what is going on here if you’re a New York Giant.
“You are 2-8! The quarterback is the leader of the team who gets judged on wins and losses. The quarterback has failed. Watch him play...this is a business. If you feel you’re not getting paid properly, you hold out. God bless you, you should...this is the recognition that they can’t move forward with Daniel Jones. He’s not helping you win!”
Jones has not had a good season, dating back to his disastrous Week 1 performance against the Vikings. The Giants have the worst red zone percentage in football, the fewest passing touchdowns, and the second-worst quarterback rating. Sure, it’s not a certainty that Tommy DeVito will be better, but at this point, it’s worth a shot.
“What are you complaining about? They gave him every opportunity,” C-Mac said. “‘They’re doing this for money.’ They paid him $40 million!”
