C-Mac: Yankees have some concerning defensive issues at key positions

C-Mac has loved the Yankees’ hot start to the season, but after Wednesday’s loss to the Marlins, he says there are a couple glaring issues that need to be addressed.

“They’re not very good defensively, and it starts with two players that I wouldn’t have concerned myself with defensively,” C-Mac said. “I don’t know what’s going on with Anthony Rizzo, but he has looked awful defensively…first base in an incredibly important defensive position for the Yankees, and Rizzo looks terrible.”

The other issue is behind the plate, as Jose Trevino’s 0-for-4 night dropped his OPS below .300, and his defense is suddenly not making up for his offensive struggles.

“It’s getting to the point where I don’t want to play him, and I don’t care about splits and platoons,” C-Mac said. “Trevino looks slow…whether it’s all those wild pitches and passed balls on Opening Day that I thought he should have stopped a couple, or how slow it looks to get to his feet and throw the ball to second base, if he is not a Platinum Glove winner…his offense isn’t good enough to justify playing him.

“They’re 10-3, they’ve played extremely well, but there are some issues with this team.”
