Carlos Carrasco was brilliant on Wednesday night against the rival Phillies, holding Philadelphia’s struggling offense to just one run over six innings of work in another Mets victory.

The veteran righty has struggled for much of his Mets tenure, dealing with injuries and a lack of efficiency on the mound, but he has looked much better in his last two starts, though manager Buck Showalter says the most encouraging sign might be the lengths Carrasco is going to stay in the game.

“You can tell his arm is moving better. He’s throwing it through the target, not to the target,” Showalter said. “He's starting to hide from me after the fifth and sixth inning now. That's always a good sign.”

Carrasco confirmed that, telling reporters that he actively tried to avoid Showalter to avoid being taken out of the game. In Carrasco’s mind, if Showalter couldn’t tell him that his night was done, then his night was in fact not done.

“I really did,” Carrasco laughed when asked if he hid from Showalter. “I went down to the bathroom…just trying to hide myself. But he found me.”

Showalter hunted him down, but the bullpen finished the job for Carrasco, who has now allowed just two runs in his last 12.2 innings of work after allowing 17 over his first 18.2 innings this season.

“I had to chase him around the bathroom after the sixth,” Showalter said. “I waited until he came out.”
