Carlos Mendoza will be back in the NL East in 2027.

Phillies president Dave Dombrowski told reporters during the team's end-of-season press conference that the former Mets manager is joining Philly's staff as third base and infield coach. Mendoza will be part of Don Mattingly's staff, as Dombrowski also confirmed that Mattingly will be back as manager next season.

Mendoza was fired by the Mets back in June, as the team with high expectations and the highest payroll in baseball got off to a dreadful start that included a 12-game losing streak. He was replaced by Andy Green, who was labeled as interim manager before the Mets removed that interim tag before the end of their season.

Mendoza compiled a 206-199 record in two-plus seasons as Mets skipper, highlighted by a resurgent second half in 2024 that led to a run to game six of the NLCS. But the 2025 team collapsed down the stretch and missed the playoffs entirely after losing on the last day of the regular season.

Mendoza was originally part of Aaron Boone's coaching staff on the Yankees from 2018 to 2023.
