Carmelo Anthony voted into Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

One of the great scorers in Knicks - and NBA - history is reportedly headed to the Hall of Fame.

According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Carmelo Anthony has been inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot. The 10-time All-Star played six-plus seasons with New York, and was named an All-Star in every one of them.

Ironically, Anthony learned of his induction on the anniversary of him dropping 50 points on the Heat as a member of the Knicks, all while scoring a remarkable zero points in the paint in the process.

The first-ballot induction hardly comes as a surprise, as Anthony was an all-timer on the offensive end for much of his career. His 19 years in the NBA ended with a scoring average of 22.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from downtown. In the 2012-13 season with the Knicks, he won the scoring title by averaging 28.7 points per game, finishing third in the MVP voting and leading the Knicks to a 54-win campaign.

The Syracuse product and NCAA Tournament champion was acquired by the Knicks in a blockbuster deal with the Nuggets during the 2010-11 season, and went on to play for the Thunder, Rockets, Trail Blazers, and Lakers after his stint in Gotham.

Anthony also has stellar career numbers in Olympic competition, winning three gold medals during his tenure representing the United States.
