Craig and Evan reacted live to Jacob deGrom's introductory press conference with the Rangers, and they both agreed that the events that led deGrom to that podium in Texas came down to a simple fact.
DeGrom was offered a lot more money to pitch for the Rangers than New York.
"Here's what I know: he was blown away by a superior offer," Evan said. "The Texas Rangers made a far, far better offer than the Mets ever did.
"You could say the Mets were right [to not offer more], we could argue about it, that's irrelevant. He was given a much better offense by Texas, and did what 90 percent, not everybody, but he took a better offer. I wish him the best, but it's over."
The Mets reportedly didn't get a chance to make another offer, but there is no guarantee that they would have even if they did. Evan has consistently expressed with frustration with how the Mets handled deGrom's free agency, but he's ready to move on, even if he is still angry with how some Mets fans still perceive the situation and how it all went down.
"I've accepted he's gone, I've accepted the Mets decision," Evan said. "What still bothers me is the crap I hear from my fellow Met fans.
"He may not want to be here. Stop using that as the definitive reason why he left. We will never know, because the Mets never made a competitive offer."
