Carton & Roberts: Why do Jets continue to praise Zach Wilson? 'They're full of it'

Despite the Jets continuing to make it known that adding a veteran quarterback is the team’s top priority this offseason, front office and coaching staff continue to sing the praises of Zach Wilson after a disastrous sophomore season.

Craig and Evan can’t figure out why the team continues to spin such positivity around a former No. 2 draft pick who has been a massive disappointment since making his debut.

“I don’t know what they see behind the scenes, but I know what we saw every time the kid went out there and played,” Craig said. “I can’t quite figure out, other than they’re just unwilling to let him go because it’s the final nail in the ‘we made a big effing mistake’ coffin, but the fact that they continually praise this kid publicly is beyond me.”

For Evan, the only logical explanation is that they’re simply lying at the microphone, and Wilson is actually on his way out of New York.

“I don’t believe them,” Evan said. “They can say it over and over again, and I don’t buy it…despite them saying it over and over again, I don’t buy it. I’ll go out on a limb and say he’s not gonna be on the roster Week 1…I think they’re full of it.”

Craig is in agreement, particularly with the idea that Wilson’s days with the franchise are numbered, regardless of what Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas say publicly.

“I’m with you. He shouldn’t be,” Craig said. “He’s not gonna be after next year regardless because of the contract and the way it’s structured.”
