The Knicks celebratory summer continued on Wednesday night, as New York took home every ESPY award that it was nominated for, including Best Team of the past year.
The Knicks should be familiar with sweeps, as they disposed of the 76ers and Cavaliers in four games during their historic championship run. Now, they have another clean sweep to celebrate.
The 2026 NBA champions were nominated for five awards, and won all five. "Knicks in five" is once again relevant.
OG Anunoby won the award for Best Play, honoring his iconic tip-in to win game four of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, which capped off a historic 29-point comeback. Anunoby's heroic bucket is widely considered the greatest play in franchise history, and now one of the greatest in NBA history.
Jalen Brunson took home three individual ESPY awards, including Best Male Athlete, Best Championship Performance, and Best NBA Player. None should be much of a surprise, as Brunson was the star of a team that ended a 53-year title drought, and his performance in the clinching game five will go down in NBA history, as Brunson poured in 45 points in a championship showing that only the likes of Michael Jordan have replicated.
The Knicks have been the toast of the town for the past month, and rightfully so. They are the first champion in New York among the four major sports in 14 years. They have been treated like royalty since coming home from San Antonio with the Larry O'Brien Trophy, and their trophy case is now even more crowded after Wednesday night.
