Did FOX NFL and NCAA Football analyst Charles Davis throw some shade at Joe Judge this morning?
Appearing on The DA Show on CBS Sports Radio, Davis was asked by Damon Amendolara what he sees as the biggest difference with the Giants this year under Brian Daboll – and his answer seems to indicate an actual culture shift from whatever was going on with Big Blue under Judge.
“A real toughness, not a manufactured one or a discussed toughness – something that has already taken effect,” Davis said. “There used to be a discussed toughness and ‘we’re going to build this culture’ that never took root, but in a short amount of time, there’s not a lot of discussion about toughness around this Giants group, yet it’s displayed all the time.”
Davis brought out the “next man up” cliché, saying “everyone talks it, but living it is a whole different deal” – and to him, the Giants are living it.
“This is not a team that’s 4-1 because they’ve caught every break, or guys are healthy and playing over their heads – they’re playing with people who weren’t even on the roster at the beginning of the season and are now playing well,” Davis said. “That’s not supposed to happen on teams that haven’t won in a while; it’s only supposed to happen on teams that have that culture established already.”
Judge, a disciple of the Belichick coaching tree, was supposed to bring that culture to New York, but the team won just 10 games in two seasons – a total Daboll, a first-year head coach like Judge was in 2020, is almost halfway to five weeks into the season.
