Eli Manning is proving to have an "elite" troll game.
The two-time Super Bowl winner on Thursday dropped a sick burn on fellow former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, now an analyst with NBC Sports, seemingly out of nowhere.
Manning took to Twitter on Thursday to post a throwback photo showing a back issue of Athlon Sports magazine, on which he and Simms appear on the cover dating back to their college days.
But rather than offer up a caption tinged with bittersweet nostalgia, Eli took a rather humorous jab at Simms' disappointing professional career.
"Found this old Magazine today," Manning said. "I forgot Chris Simms played football."
Simms, active on social media, didn't take long to respond.
"Haha. Well good afternoon Eli!!" Simms replied. "I can take it from the 2nd best Giants Qb of all time," he added, referencing his father, Giants legend Phil Simms.
Eli's quip and Simms' response spurred a bit of debate in the responses, where Giants fans hashed out the merits of Eli vs. Phil Simms.
Many gave Eli the nod for starting two Super Bowl wins, while others sided with Simms for his nearly flawless performance against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI.
Chris Simms, who hosts a popular podcast with Pro Football Talk, seemed to indicate it was all a joke, and said would love to have Manning on his show.
Simms transitioned into coaching and, later, broadcasting upon retiring in 2009 after an unremarkable five-year run in the NFL. He was drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2003, one year ahead of Manning.
The New Jersey native played his college ball with the Texas Longhorns, in whose uniform he appears on the cover of the January 2001 edition of the annual Athlon magazine.
