Could J.T. Miller be headed back to Broadway?

According to a Arthur Staple of The Athletic, Miller, currently with the Canucks, might be “the most viable option” for the Rangers if they choose to acquire someone to play right wing, and the Blueshirts would be “at the front of the line” if Vancouver decides to deal Miller ahead of the March 21 trade deadline.

The Rangers are without Kaapo Kakko for at least another month, and could look to the trade market to fill his hole on the right wing of Artemi Panarin and Ryan Strome, rather than continue to use Barclay Goodrow in that spot.

Per Staple, Miller’s friendly contract (one year left with a $4.25 million actual salary and $5.25 million cap hit) and production (48 points in 47 games for Vancouver) make him the most attractive option, especially noting that if the Rangers don’t re-sign Strome, Miller could step back in as the second-line center with Panarin and Kakko next season.

The 28-year-old Miller was selected No. 15 overall by the Rangers in 2011 and played for the team from 2012 to 2018, tallying 72 goals and 100 assists. He was dealt to Tampa Bay in February 2018 in the Ryan McDonagh deal, and then sent to Vancouver in the summer of 2019.
