Alex Rodriguez, according to DEA documents reported by ESPN, ratted out fellow MLB stars Ryan Braun and Manny Ramirez when being questioned by federal agents about the Biogenesis scandal that resulted in the Yankee third baseman being suspended for the 2014 season.

Speaking on the Foul Territory podcast this week, former Yankee David Wells made it clear that “nobody likes a rat.”

“That’s not good. That will come back to bite you in the ass tenfold,” Wells said. “Nobody likes a rat. You always lie your way out of everything until you get caught, and then you got to come clean.

“You don’t come out and just start ratting guys out. A lot of guys go to prison and never say a word, and they get a lot of respect.”

Wells has spoken out against steroid users in the past, but he added that Rodriguez could have went about his situation with a lot more grace, and would have helped his reputation around the league a lot more, like one of Rodriguez’s former Yankee teammates.

“A-Rod, he hit me pretty well. He’s got a lot of home runs off me. It just sucks that when these guys get caught…[Jason] Giambi did it right,” Wells said. “He came out and said ‘You know what, I did it,’ and you never hear his name, ever. He’s probably one of the best teammates I’ve ever had…what a stud, what a great guy he is.”
