The Devils are still the hottest team in hockey and the story of the NHL, taking down the Oilers on Monday night to tie a franchise record with their 13th win in a row.

The only other time New Jersey had a winning streak of 13 games came back in the 2000-01 season, which ended one victory short of a second straight Stanley Cup.

“I guess we’re up there in the history book,” Nico Hischier said. “Nobody is gonna take that from us now. It definitely feels good. It proves that we’re a good team and we can win hockey games.”

Head coach Lindy Ruff had a different refrain after win No. 13 of the current streak, saying there is still plenty of proving to be done.

“We haven’t proven anything yet,” Ruff said. “We’ve got a long way to go. It’s been a great run so far. 19 games in we can’t say we sent a message to the whole league.”

The winning streak is the seventh longest in league history, and will be tested again on Wednesday night in Newark against the Maple Leafs.
